Truck tolls in Europe: a practical guide
How HGV tolling works across Europe: distance-based charges, vignettes and why tolls belong in your quote.

Two systems: distance and vignette
European toll schemes broadly fall into two families. Distance-based systems (Germany’s Maut, France, Austria, and many others) charge per kilometre and vary by vehicle weight, axles and emission class. Vignette systems charge for a period of access regardless of distance.
For a cross-border load, a single trip can pass through several regimes, which is exactly why estimating tolls by hand is error-prone.
Why tolls belong in the price
On a long international run, tolls can be a material share of the cost. Leave them out of the quote and the margin quietly disappears. Include them accurately and pricing becomes defensible.
The only reliable way to get them right is to compute the toll for the actual routed path and vehicle profile, then pass it through to the price.
Emission classes and LEZ
Many schemes reward cleaner Euro emission classes with lower rates, and low-emission zones can force detours. A modern routing engine factors these in so the plan reflects both cost and legality.
